Why Not Go Truffle-Hunting In Italy This Fall?

As travelers crave authentic experiences that are unique to the destination, Casetta Firenze is launching a truffle-hunting experience as part of its Enrichment Series. Available for guests who book the five-bedroom farmhouse, the expedition will be led by local expert truffle hunters Mauro and Mattia Nesi, along with their adorable and indefatigable hunting dogs Ardesia, Brisa, and Spritz. With an ideal landscape and environmental conditions, Tuscany provides visitors with private forests for prime truffle hunting.

I can tell you from personal experience – I went truffle-hunting with dogs in Switzerland a few years back, and it was one of the most memorable travel experiences of my life.

The two-hour Cassetta Firenze excursion will take guests through several paths in Lucardo where they will firsthand learn how to find truffles, while gaining a deeper understanding of the truffle itself, its composition, the culinary process, favorite recipes, and much more.

“I’m absolutely delighted to partner with Mauro and his son Mattia whose passion for truffle hunting has been passed down through their own family from generation to generation,” said Xenia Lemos, owner of Casetta Firenze. “Truffles are coveted as they are only available in certain areas with the right conditions and not all year long. It’s our version of finding gold.”

Mattia adds, “My family has been focused on truffles for generations. The eagerness of the dogs, the hunt in the early morning or late afternoon, the hopeful discovery and the following feast is a tradition we relish. It’s a pleasure to share our expertise with Casetta guests.”

After the journey concludes, guests will feast in a truffle-based lunch at La Capanna del Gallo with their own hard-won bounty or that of the chef incorporated in a truffle-tasting meal created by the owner and chef Matteo and his wife. Menu options may include anything from the traditional eggs and truffles to bistecca or pasta also, of course, with truffles.

The price for the two-hour truffle hunting immersion plus lodging for a group of ten guests for two nights is €8200 (approximately $9200 USD) including the full private farmhouse with five bedrooms each with ensuite bathroom, welcome dinner, daily country breakfast, daily maid service, truffle hunting experience and truffle lunch or dinner. Transportation can be provided for an additional fee upon request.

Casetta is a 270-year-old luxury farmhouse, known for its charm and distinction, located on 90 acres in the Chianti region in Tuscany, a mere half hour from Florence. Welcoming guests for the last thirty years, owner Xenia Lemos is known as a warm and welcoming host whose singular joy is creating memorable experiences for her friends and guests. Experiences include customized art history excursions, guided mountain biking, hot air balloon rides, truffle hunting, cooking lessons, touring vineyards, special Chef dinners with live music and dancing, and spa services on-site customized for guests.
