2 killed, 1 hurt in Braddock shooting

Two males were killed and one was hurt late Sunday during a shooting in Braddock, according to Allegheny County Police.

An Allegheny County Housing Authority officer near Margaretta and Center streets, about a block off of Sixth Street, reported hearing multiple gunshots around 11 p.m. The males with fatal gunshot wounds were found on Center Street.

The third male had gunshot wounds to the chest and buttocks. Police said he was taken from a nearby home to a hospital. He was listed in critical but stable condition.

Police have not announced any arrests. The Allegheny County Medical Examiner has not released information about the fatalities.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact police at 1-833-ALL-TIPS.

Woodland Hills School District Superintendent Daniel Castagna sent a message to parents Monday, the fourth day of school in the 2023-24 year, indicating that district families may have been affected by the shooting.

Supportive services for staff and students will be available at the school Monday and in the coming days and weeks.

“School must go on, but families who choose to keep their child home to help deal with the loss will have the absence excused,” he said in the statement. “Our collective grief must today be the anchor that holds us together so we can help our children and each other. The mourning and heartache we feel must turn our pain into action to stop these violent acts.”
